Seven Athletes From Five Programs Earn Liberty League Weekly Honors

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 11, 2011) – Following a busy weekend, seven athletes from five programs earned Liberty League honors. The Liberty League bestowed honors upon Jon Erickson of men's track, Kelly Holmes and Aubree Piepmeier of women's track, Sal Costanzo of baseball, Andrew Guzick of men's tennis, and Natalie Santiago and Lindsay Kantor of women's tennis.

Jon Erickson
Jon Erickson, Senior, Liberty League Co-Track Performer of the Week

Erickson was edged by .49 seconds in his quest to capture the 800 meter run at the New Jersey Invitational hosted by The College of New Jersey. Erickson was narrowly edged by Haverford's Ivo Milic-Strkalj (1:54.32 to 1:54.81), and earned an ECAC Qualifying time. This is his seventh career weekly award and his first Performer of the Week award in two years. Erickson graduated from DuPont Manual in 2007 where he was a two-year letter winner in track and cross country. He was Academic All-State in 2006 and 2007 named All Region in 2006 and 2007 All-State in 2007. Erickson holds the 800m record at DuPont Manual and was also a member of the record setting 4x800m relay team. During his junior year he was AAA Indoor State runner-up in the 800m and in his senior year he was AAA Indoor and Outdoor State Champion 800m.

Kelly Holmes
Kelly Holmes, Sophomore, Liberty League Co-Track Performer of the Week

In the 800 meter run at the New Jersey Invitational hosted by the College of New Jersey, sophomore Kelly Holmes showcased her mettle and speed, winning the race in 2:17.57 (amongst a field of 28 runners), and most importantly earned herself an ECAC Qualifying time in the process. This is her third such award. A 2009 graduate of Ridgefield High School, Holmes earned four letters in cross country. She was named All-Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference (FCIAC) her junior year, and Second-Team All-FCIAC her sophomore and senior years. Holmes' high school team won FCIAC Championships twice, and was Connecticut class LL runner-up in 2006.

Aubree Piepmeier, Freshman, Women's Track, Liberty League Co-Rookie of the Week
Piepmeier showcased her burgeoning talent, running the second fastest 3000 meters in school history at the New Jersey Invitational hosted by The College of New Jersey. In her second place finish, Piepmeier finished second in the 3000 meter run (10.21.85) that had a field of 29 runners. This is her third such award. This is Piepmeier's second weekly award. A 2010 graduate of Franklin High School (MA), Piepmeier lettered three years in and also competed in indoor and outdoor track and field and captained all three teams as a senior. As a junior, she won the Hockamock League Indoor 1000m event.

Sal Costanzo
Sal Costanzo, Junior, C/OF, Liberty League Co-Performer of the Week

Costanzo went 8-for-18 (.444) with seven RBI, four runs, a .500 on-base percentage, and a .556 slugging percentage in a 2-3 week for the Brewers. Costanzo went 5-for-7 with four RBI and two runs in the first doubleheader against RPI. This is his first such award. He lettered in baseball three years at Archbishop McCarthy (FL) for coach Alex Fernandez Sr and earned All-FHSAA Division 16-4A honors as a senior.

Andrew Guzick
Andrew Guzick, Sophomore, Men's Tennis, Liberty League Co-Performer of the Week

The No. 7 ranked Guzick won both of his matches in a 9-0 win against Division I Fordham and went 1-1 against in an 8-1 loss to No. 9 Williams. Against Fordham, Guzick teamed with Max Willner for an 8-2 win over Alex DiRienzo and Eli Plangger at No. 2 doubles. He sprinted to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kevin Maloney at No. 1 singles. Against Williams, the pair knocked off Felix Sun and Trey Meyer 8-6. This is his third straight weekly award and his seventh career Liberty League Performer of the Week award. In the Fall, Guzick won the ITA Northeast Regional Championship and recorded the program's first singles win at the National Small College Championships. Last year, Guzick was named name Liberty League Rookie of the Week eight times and won the Liberty League Rookie of the Year. A 2009 graduate of the Harley School, Guzick was a five-year letter winner in tennis. He was named Finger Lakes All-League his sophomore through senior year and selected to the All Greater Rochester team as a junior and senior. At Harley, his team was ranked No. 10 in the nation his senior year and No. 7 his junior year.

Natalie Santiago
Natalie Santiago, Sophomore, Women's Tennis, Liberty League Co-Performer of the Week

Santiago teamed with Lindsay Kantor to go 4-0 and win the Seven Sisters Championship No. 2 doubles flight. The pair defeated Vivian Chen and Elizabeth Oleck of Bryn Mawr 6-2, 6-1; Nawal Mays and Meghan Smith of Smith 6-0, 6-0; AnnElizabeth Konkel and Heather Richardson of Mount Holyoke 6-1, 6-1; Nathalie Herman and Raji Nagalla of Wellesley 5-7, 7-5, 6-2. This is her first such award. A 2009 graduate of Laurel Spring School, Santiago was named All-State junior year and was ranked No. 12 in USTA Southern Section.

Lindsay Kantor
Lindsay Kantor, Freshman, Women's Tennis, Liberty League Rookie of the Week

Kantor teamed with Natalie Santiago to go 4-0 and win the Seven Sisters Championship No. 2 doubles flight. The pair defeated Vivian Chen and Elizabeth Oleck of Bryn Mawr 6-2, 6-1; Nawal Mays and Meghan Smith of Smith 6-0, 6-0; AnnElizabeth Konkel and Heather Richardson of Mount Holyoke 6-1, 6-1; Nathalie Herman and Raji Nagalla of Wellesley 5-7, 7-5, 6-2. This is Kantor's seventh Liberty League Rookie of the Week award. A 2010 graduate Westhampton Beach High School, Kantor was a four time League Doubles Champion and part of the No. 2 doubles team in the State as a Suffolk County Doubles Champion her senior year.
