ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell Spring Invitational concluded on Sunday with the women's heptathlon and men's decathlon and the Big Red won both events as Cornell junior
Nick Huber set a new school and Kane Complex record in the decathlon with a two-day tally of 7,593 points and junior
Karen Schillinger won the heptathlon with a total of 4,297 points.
Huber's total is the sixth best performance in the nation so far this season and an improvement of over 500 points on his own shool record set last year at this meet. Remarkably, he set six personal bests out of ten events over the two grueling days. He began with a near personal best of 11.14 in the 100, long jumped a new personal best of 22-9 1/4, threw 43-5 in the shot put, tied his best in the high jump with a clearance of 6-7 1/2 and closed out the day with a fine 49.27 in the 400. He picked up where he left off on Day 2, missing his PR in the 110 hurdles by only .05, running 14.66. He then came back with four straight personal bests to close out the emet: 137-7 in the discus, a huge clearance of 15-5 in the pole vault, a throw of 159-5 in the javelin and a time of 4:48.07 in the 1500.
Huber was not the only Cornell athlete with a big day. Junior
Josh Cusick moved to number three all-time at Cornell with a score of 6,681 points, which bettered the IC4A standard. Another junior,
Vince Formica, placed third with 6,440 points which is now #8 all-time at Cornell.
And in the women's heptathlon, junior
Karen Schillinger placed first of six competitors, scoring 4,297 points, with a time of 15.11 in the 100 hurdles, a high jump clearance of 5-2 1/4, a shot put mark of 31-9 1/2, a run of 27.26 in the 200, a long jump of 17-4 1/4, a javelin throw of 83-7 and an 800 time of 2:43.98.
