ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Big Red women's track team hosted their first home meet of the 2011 outdoor season on Saturday at the Robert J. Kane Sports Complex and produced a number of terrific performances at the Spring Invitational. The Cornell women won 13 times and produced 11 ECAC qualifiers to go along with three new track records.
Senior co-captain Kim Standridge led the way early, setting a new track record (breaking the mark set by Kerri Lyons '10 a year ago) and personal best of 4:26.54 for first in the 1500; she was followed by sophomores Kelsey Karys (2nd, 4:34.87) and Katie Kellner (3rd, 4:40.78, a personal best). Junior Kelsey Reimnitz was also very impressive, as she won the 400 to break the track record of Jessica Brown '05, setting a new personal best of 55.29, good enough for #8 all-time at Cornell. And the Big Red had a very impressive effort from junior Molly Glantz in the 400 hurdles, as she won by six seconds to take down the track record of Jessica Weyman '10, running 58.96 to become the #2 performer in school history.
The day got off to a good start for the Big Red in the 4X100 as the quartet of junior Dani Silas, junior Melissa Hewitt, senior co-captain Mecha Santos and freshman Ebolutalese Airewele ran 46.39, an ECAC qualifier and #9 all-time. Hewitt came back to win two individual events, producing ECAC qualifiers in both the long jump (19-1 1/4) and the 200 (24.49). Following closely behind Hewitt in the 200 was Santos, who ran 24.95 for second. And the Big Red had an ECAC qualifier in the prelims of the 100 hurdles as Silas improved her PR to 14.14 (she is the #4 performer in school history). In the long jump, Hewitt was followed closely by classmates Kristin Brandt, who was second at 18- 81/2 and Jessica Wilson, who was third in 18-4 1/2 as the Big Red swept the first six places. Brandt also placed first in the triple jump, reaching 40-0 (an ECAC qualifier); freshman Jennifer Bush was second at 37-9 1/4. Cornell had several other top performances in the field as sophomore Brittany Dombrowski moved to #7 all-time in the javelin with a first place throw of 135-9 and senior Cassie Schweighofer had a terrific day, placing second to junior Erin Rossi (1st, 162-6) with a second place throw of 160-11 in the hammer, a mark that ties for #10 all-time at Cornell. And Schweighofer came back to win the discus with an ECAC-qualifying 145-9; sophomore Claire Dishong was third at 131-3 after placing third in the pole vault earlier in the day at 11-1 3/4. Senior co-captain Kim Lienhoop tied for first in the high jump, clearing 5-5.
Also running well on the track was the 800 trio of freshman Lauren Lloyd (1st, 2:11.01), junior Janel Parker (2nd, 2:11.16) and junior Bry Bonavita (3rd, 2:11.98); sophomore Liz Reamer had a nice breakthrough to place sixth in 2:17.61. And Cornell had a good showing in a competitive 3000 meters as sophomore Alyssa O'Connor had a 21 second personal best to place third in 9:51.23 (to go under the old track record); freshman Dale Kinney also qualified for the ECACs with a fine run of 9:55.99 for fourth.  And joining the sub-10 club was senior Kristin Sellers who had another PR to place fifth in 9:59.52.  Junior Meghan Brown was sixth in 10:02.97.
