Seven Brewers Earn First Liberty League Awards

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (March 21, 2011) – Seven Vassar College athletes from five programs earned their first career Liberty League weekly awards on Monday. The Liberty League bestowed honors up Dave Robbins of baseball, Andrew Nicol of men's lacrosse, Zoe Ripecky of women's lacrosse, Kelly Holmes and Aubree Piepmeier of women's track, and Zach Williams and Harry Feigen of men's track.

Dave Robbins, Freshman, Baseball, Liberty League Co-Rookie of the Week
Robbins went 6-for-16 with three runs, three RBI, one double and one stolen base in Vassar's last four games in Florida. He went 2-for-4 in an 11-7 win over Fitchburg State and drove in the game-tying RBI in the top of the ninth to start a six-run rally. This is his first such award. A 2010 graduate of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, Robbins lettered three years in baseball for head coach Kevin James. A Shore All-Conference selection, Robbins helped his team to the Shore Conference Finals and the State Finals in 2008. He batted .340 as a sophomore, .435 as a junior, and .350 as a senior.

Andrew Nicol, Freshman, Men's Lacrosse, Liberty League Co-Rookie of the Week
In helping the Brewers defeat Utica 5-4 in overtime, Nicol played the entire second half and overtime, making nine saves to earn his second win of the season while allowing just two goals. This is his first such award. A 2010 graduate of Brewster High School, Nicol lettered three years in lacrosse for coach Michael Honey. He earned All-League, All-Section, and Academic All-American honors. Named captain as a senior, N icol led Section 1 in saves and posted a .750 save percentage in the playoffs. His team reached the playoffs three straight years. 

Zoe Ripecky, Freshman, Women's Lacrosse, Liberty League Co-Rookie of the Week
In a strong defensive effort, Ripecky had six ground balls in Vassar's 12-2 win over Bard. To supplement her effort, Ripecky scored her first career goal and added her first career assist. This is her first such award. A 2010 graduate of St. Ignatius College Prep, Ripecky played under coach Josiane Broussard. As a junior, she was a Chicago Metro All-Conference Selection and nominated for the national team. She helped her team to a No. 6 ranking in Illinois in 2010.

Kelly Holmes
Kelly Holmes, Sophomore, Liberty League Track Performer of the Week

Holmes took 10th in the 26-runner 800-meter run in 2.23.08 at the Willie Williams Track Invitational hosted by University of Arizona. This is her first such award. A 2009 graduate of Ridgefield High School, Holmes earned four letters in cross country. She was named All-Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference (FCIAC) her junior year, and Second-Team All-FCIAC her sophomore and senior years. Holmes' high school team won FCIAC Championships twice, and was Connecticut class LL runner-up in 2006.

Aubree Piepmeier, Freshman Track, Liberty League Rookie of the Week
Piepmeier took 11th in the 5,000 meter run in 19:13.73 at the Willie Williams Track Invitational hosted by University of Arizona. This is her first such award. A 2010 graduate of Franklin High School (MA), Piepmeier lettered three years in and also competed in indoor and outdoor track and field and captained all three teams as a senior. As a junior, she won the Hockamock League Indoor 1000m event.

Zach Williams, Junior, Liberty League Track Performer of the Week

Williams took 21st in the 1500-meter run in 4:11.06 at the Willie Williams Track Invitational hosted by University of Arizona.

Harry Feigen, Freshman Track, Liberty League Rookie of the Week
Feigen took 33rd in the 1500-meter run in 4:32.51 at the Willie Williams Track Invitational hosted by University of Arizona. A 2006 graduate of East Greenich High School, Feigen lettered two years in cross country and track and field for coach Peter Dion. In cross country, he earned All-Surburban Division and All-Class honors as a junior and senior. He helped his team to a State Championship in 2007.
