Women's Eighth, Men Ninth Following Day One Of The NEC Indoor Track & Field Championships

Junior Sheena Taylor Finishes Third At NEC Championships

The Wagner College women's indoor track & field team is in a tie for eighth place with seven points while the men's sqaud resides in ninth with nine points following the first day of the the Northeast Conference (NEC) Indoor Championships at the Prince George Sports & Learning Complex in Landover, MD. Monmouth leads on the women's side with 37 points while the Hawk men also sit in first place with 40 points. The Seahawks had three scorers on day one while advancing three others to tomorrow's finals.

Junior standout Sheena Taylor (Twinsburg, OH / Detroit Mercy) led the way with bronze in the weight throw event, placing third with a throw of 17.26 meters (56-7.5). Her toss easily qualifies her for the ECAC championships to be held Saturday, March 5 in Boston, MA.

Senior Mishelle McNamara (West Covina, CA / Covina) put points on the scoreboard, tying for seventh in the high jump with a leap of 1.55 meters (5-1). McNamara will also look to score in the pole vault competition tomorrow afternoon.

Advancing to the finals on the women's side were freshman Cameo Kirk (Ocean Port, NJ / Shore Regional) and senior Jessica Balling (Seaford, NY / MacArthur). Kirk finished second in her 800 meter heat and seventh overall with a personal-best time of 2:20.87 while Balling was tripped in her heat thus garnering an automatic pass to Saturday's finals.

Junior Thomas Iannacone (Havertown, PA / St. Joe's Prep) finished fifth in the 3000 meter run with a season-best time of 8:36.80. Classmate Colin Macdonald (Dix Hills, NY / Commack) clinched a spot in final heat of the 500 meter dash after finishing third among 28 runners in a time of 1:06.81. Rounding out the finalists on the men's side was freshman Daniel Zaccariello (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph's By The Sea), who placed second in his 800-meter heat and ninth overall with a time of 1:56.98.

The Seahawks look to add to their team scores after the completion of the track event finals, relays and remaining field events tomorrow afternoon.
