BOSTON, Mass. -- The Big Red men placed 13th at the IC4A championships this weekend at Boston University, scoring 22 points. Cornell had four All-East performances and were led by senior Matt De Silva's victory in the 3000 meters and a pair of school records from junior Dan Thomas in the 500 as he placed second in the event.

The highlight of day one for the Big Red came in the 3000 as senior Matt De Silva made a strong move in the final 800 meters and held on well to place first in 8:12.57. Junior Dan Thomas also looked strong, breaking classmate Brian Freitas' one week old school record in the 500, running 1:02.78 to win his heat. Also advancing out of the preliminaries in the 60 were sophomore Jedidiah Adarquah-Yiadom who ran 6.94 in the first round and 6.93 in the semis as well as junior Chase Aaronson, who ran 6.99 and then 6.95. The 4X800 also moved on as freshman Eric Bice split 1:53.9, freshman Steve Harsman ran 1:54.1, senior Tommy Roy ran 1:53.5 and freshman John Schilkowski closed in 1:52.4 as the quartet crossed the line in 7:33.97, which is #7 all-tme at Cornell. Also competing on Saturday were senior Andy Ahart in the 60 (17th, 7.00), freshman Chris Bain in the 60 (18th, 7.01), freshman Kinsley Ojukwu in the 200 (32nd, 22.30), freshman Justin McCollin in the 200 (35th, 22.36), senior co-captain Cody Boyd in the 400 (12th, 48.08), sophomore David McCuiston in the 800 (36th, 1:54.27), Aaronson in the long jump (12th, 22-5)), senior Enbani Moore in the long jump (25th, 21-6), sophomore Bob Fiedler in the weight throw (27th, 46-1 1/2) and freshman David Kim and Peter Roach in the pole vault. The 4X400 of senior co-captain Chris Tait (49.1), Ojukwu (49.4), McColin (49.5) and freshman Steven Bell (51.3) ran 3:18.88 but did not advance.

On Sunday, Thomas picked up where he left off in the 500 and lowered his school record to 1:02.47 to become the IC4A runner-up. Cornell had two in the 60 finals and Adarquah-Yiadom placed sixth in 6.91 while Aaronson was ninth in 8.03. The Big Red also had a scorer in the heptathlon as junior Josh Cusick was eighth with a score of 5,013. Classmate Vince Formica was thirteenth at 4,048 points. The 4X800, which advanced to the final, suffered misfortune. After Roy's lead-off leg of 1:53.1, Schiklowski lost the baton 50 meters before the end of his leg and the squad was unable to finish. Also competing on Sunday was junior Chris Arlinghaus, who cleared 6-6 1/4 for twelfth in the high jump, freshman Dan Scott in the triple jump (21st, 45-9 1/4) and junior Bob Belden in the shot put. Connecticut placed first in the team competition with 73.5 points and Cornell's total of 22 was the best amongst the Heps schools.
