At the Indoor Heps this weekend, the Cornell men's track team competed at the Armory in New York City and duplicated last year's indoor runner-up team finish, placing behind only defending champion Princeton The Cornell men scored in 18 of 19 events to total 172 points to Princeton's 215.  The quality of performances from Cornell was high as the Big Red produced over 40 IC4A qualifiers and had 10 changes to the all-time top-10 lists to go along with a school record in the 500 and a freshman record in the heptathlon.  Cornell crowed four Heps champions:  freshman Steven Bell in the long jump, junior Nick Huber (who won the heptathlon and also scored in the 60 hurdles and high jump), junior Danny Hagberg, who won the 60 hurdles in dramatic fashion, and sophomore Jedidiah Yiadom-Adarquah, who won the 60 dash.  Second team All-Ivy performances came from junior Brian Freitas in the 500, Bell in the triple jump, Chris Arlinghaus in the high jump, Josh Cusick in the heptathlon, freshman Chris Bain in the 400, Nate Edelman in the 5000 and senior Cody Boyd in the 400.

The men had a good start to the meet on Day One, although they came up short in the scoring column against Princeton in each event.  Freshman Steven Bell became a Heps champion, reaching 23-8 3/4 as three Cornellians scored.  Junior Chase Aaronson was fourth at 23-3 1/4 and classmate Vince Formica took a break from the heptathlon to get sixth at 22-8 1/2 as the Big Red tallied 15 points.  In the weight throw, junior Bob Belden did well, placing third at 59-6 3/4 and in the pole vault, freshman David Kim earned his sash with a fifth place clearance of 15-9 to bring the men's Day 1 total to 23.  In the lone final on the track, senior Matt De Silva ran well but did not score in the 3000, crossing the line in 8:16.30 for eleventh.

The Cornell men had 13 advance to Sunday's finals, as did Princeton, setting up a show-down on the meet's final day.  Four Big Red sprinters advanced in the 60 as freshman Chris Bain (6.80), junior Chase Aaronson (6.87, #6 all-time), sophomore Jedidiah Adarquah-Yiadom (6.89) and fresman Kinsley Ojukwu (6.95) looked good.  In the 400, senior co-captain Cody Boyd (48.27) and junior Ken McClain (49.59) advanced  and juniors Dan Thomas (63.56) and Dan Thomas (64.24) moved on in the 500.  In the 800, freshman Will Weinlandt competed tough to advance in 1:51.60 while junior Nick Wade won his heat as he pleased in 2:25.91 in the 1000.  Remarkably, fast efforts from freshman Eric Bice (1:52.52, 9th), senior Tommy Roy (1:54.5, 16th)  in the 800 and freshman John Schilkowski (2:26.47, 11th) did not advance.  In the mile, senior co-captain Adrien Dannemiller ran 4:07.57 to move on while junior Andy Arnold was 18th in 4:17.38.  In the 60 hurdles, Hagberg (8.19) and Huber (8.38) garnered lanes in Sunday's final while junior Andrew Corridore (10th, 8.50) just missed.

Due to their efforts on Saturday, the Big Red was the only program able to have athletes in every single event contested on Sunday.  And, as always, Day Two of the Heps was full of ups and downs, surprises and upsets and was very exciting.

Cornell added nearly 150 points to their tally on Sunday with great performances across the board.  Adrien Dannemiller made a bold move for the lead in the second half of the mile and nearly stole the win before placing third in 4:11.79.  The Big Red put up big points in the 60 hurdles, and claimed a new Heps champ, as Dan Hagberg dove across the line to seal his victory, with a time of 8.10.  Nick Huber took a break from the heptathlon to place fourth in a seasonal best 8.27.  Cody Boyd ran a terrific race in the 400, producing the second best time in school history, 47.93, to get second.  Ken McClain garnered a point with a sixth-place run of 49.14.  And in the 500, Brian Freitas was terrific in winning his heat of the final, running 62.92 to set a new school record and finishing second overall.  Dan Thomas also did well to move to #3 all-time, placing third in 63.23.  24 big points came through in the 60 as Jedidiah Adarquah-Yiadom won his first Heps title in running 6.79 (#2 all-time); Chris Bain was second in 6.84, Chase Aaronson fourth in 6.92 and Kinsley Ojukwu was fifth at 6.95.  Meanwhile, in the triple jump, Steven Bell followed up his win in the long jump on Saturday with a second place effort of 48-9 1/ in the triple jump.  Freshman Dan Scott was third at 48-0 and senior Julian Remouns was fifth at 47-7 3/4.  Kinsly Ojukwu just missed scoring to get seventh at 46-8 1/4.   The Big Red continued to trim the deficit against Princeton with 23 more points in the heptathlon.  Nick Huber placed first in a fine total of 5,319 points. He had performances of 7.32 in the 60, 20-11 3/4 in the long jum, 46-4 in the shot put, 6-7 1/2 in the high jump, 8.51 in the 60 hurdlres, 15-1 in the vault and 2:59.58 in the 1000.  Junior Josh Cusick was second in a career-best 5,113 (#3 all-time), Vince Formica was fourth at 4,874 and freshman Mike Rabbitt broked the freshman record with a total of 4,379 for sixth.  Huber's weekend was not done as he then came back to grab third in the high jump, clearing 6-7.  Junior Chris Arlinghaus competed well to get second at 6-9 1/2  in the high jump while freshman Hercules Stancil and sophomore Jourdan White both cleared 6-4 1/4 to tie for sixth.  In the shot put, Bob Belden was sixth at 53-5 1/2.  Back on the track, freshman Will Weinlandt earned his sash with a fourth-place 1:51.54 (#7 all time) and sophomore Nick Wade was third in the 1000 at 2:24.91.  In the 5000, senior Nate Edelman ran a gutty race, leading much of the way and rallying in the end for second, running 14:10.91, #2 all-time indoors at Cornell, behind only Brian Clas '94.

With the meet still technically up in the air entering the three relays (Princeton had a 24 point lead) the Tigers officially clinched the title by winning the distance medley.  The Cornell quartet of sophomore Andy Arnold (3:02.0 for 1200), senior co-captain Chris Tait (49.5 for 400), Weinlandt (1:54.1 for 800) and Dannemiller (4:19.2 for 1600) ran 10:04.78 for sixth, a seasonal best.  In the 4X800, Eric Bice (1:53.5), Tommy Roy (1:53.5), John Schilkowski (1:52.4) and Wade (1:56.4) teamed up to place fifth in 7:36.00, also a seasonal best.  The 4X400 placed third in 3:14.26 with legs from  Boyd (48.5), Thomas (48.6), McClain (49.6) and Freitas (48.0)
