2/19/2011 11:21:22 PM

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's team hosted the 11th Marc Deneault Memorial Invitational on Saturday in Barton Hall and with Marc's family on hand, the Big Red looked sharp in tuning up for next week's Heps as the team boasted nine IC4A qualifying efforts and three event wins.   The Most Outstanding Performer award on the men's side of the meet went to recent grad Muhammad Halim '08, who won the long jump in 25-0 3/4 and the triple jump in 54-0 1/2.

On the track, a sweep of the first five places in the 800, in which each Big Red runner bettered the IC4A standard, was one of the highlights of the day.  Sophomore Nick Wade won in a time of 1:53.71 with freshman Will Weinlandt a close second in 1:53.87.  Senior Tommy Roy was third in 1:54.12, freshman Eric Bice was fourth at 1:54.58 and sophomore David McCuiston fifth at 1:55.68.

Another significant highlight was the second place run of junior Danny Hagberg in the 60 hurdles, who set a new personal best of 8.05, #3 all-time at Cornell.  In the 60, senior Andy Ahart moved to #10 all-time at Cornell with an IC4A-qualifying 6.98 in the 60 dash, good enough for third place.

Junior Bob Belden continued to throw well, winning the weight throw with a heave of 59-0 3/4.  Sophomore Bob Feidler was third at 54-2 3/4 while sophomore Mike Murphy was fourth in the shot put at 47-7 3/4 and freshman Andrew Weber was fifth at 46-10.  In the pole vault, freshman Peter Roach placed first in an IC4A-qualifying clearance of 15-9 while classmate David Kim was second at 15-3.  Multi-eventers claimed fourth and fifth as juniors Josh Cusick and Nick Huber both cleared 14-9.  Elsewhere in the field, sophomore Jourdan White was fourth at 22-7 3/4 in the long jump and freshman David Salbert was fifth at 46-0 in the triple jump.

Other good performances came from senior co-captain Chris Tait in the 400, who lead much of the way before placing third in 50.26 and freshman Justin McCollim, who was fourth in both the 60 at 7.03 and the 400 at 50.44.  Classmate Andre Andersen was fifth in the 400 at 50.71.  In the 500, junior Karl Delaroche was second in 1:08.71 and classmate Steve Wexler was third at 1:08.90.  And the 4X400 placed second in 3:23.78.
