Orange T&F Set for BIG EAST Showcase

AKRON, Ohio. – Several members of the Syracuse University track and field team will travel to Akron, Ohio to compete in the BIG EAST Indoor Championships on Saturday, Feb. 19-20. The weekend's events will take place at the Stile Athletics Field House beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday and resume again at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. The Orange will be represented by 21 men and 21 women competing in this weekend's competition.
On the men's side, the Orange will feature six runners in the 5000-meter dash. Junior Tito Medrano, who recorded a BIG EAST qualifying time of 8:12.85 will compete in the 3000-meter run. Senior Kwaku Boah qualified with a school record holding heave of 19.93m in the weight throw.
On the women's side, junior Lauren Penney will highlight SU's distance runners. Penney set new school records in the mile and the 3000-meter run this season with times of 4:41.34 and 9:16.01, respectively.
Veteran Kelsey Rubeor earned both high jump and long jump qualifying marks of 1.69m and 5.68m, respectively. She will be joined by teammate Ieva Staponkute in the long jump, who had a BIG EAST qualifying mark of 5.53m. Staponkute will also compete for the Orange in the triple jump where she registered a conference qualifying mark of 12.62m earlier this season.
