NEW ORLEANS – For the second consecutive year, the Syracuse University women's cross country program earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors. The squad compiled an overall GPA of 3.5, which ranked higher than 140 of the 192 Division I institutions that were recognized.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five student-athletes at their respective NCAA regional championship.
Syracuse had seven runners compete for the women's team at the 2010 NCAA Northeast Regional Championship where the Orange captured its second consecutive regional title.
The BIG EAST led all conferences with 12 members earning All-Academic honors and was followed by the Big 12 and Big Ten who each placed 11 on the list. Villanova, the NCAA and BIG EAST Champions, won its second consecutive Scholar Team of the Year honor.
Since Chris Fox assumed the head coaching position in 2005, SU's women have earned three All-Academic team honors. The Orange women have accomplished this feat six times since the inception of the award in 1995.
