NEW ORLEANS – For the second consecutive year, the Syracuse University women's cross country team had more student-athletes named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic team than any other Division I institution. Five Orange runners earned the recognition for their performances on the course and in the classroom.
Seniors Catherine DeSarle and Katie Hursey and juniors Natalie Busby, Lauren Penney and Heather Stephens each earned All-Academic honors. For Hursey, this marks the third time she has received this recognition. Busby, DeSarle and Penney have each been selected on two occasions.
Each recipients of the honor must compile a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and finish in the top 10 percent of the field at an NCAA Division I Regional meet.
All five runners earned All-Northeast Region honors in 2010 and were instrumental in leading the Orange to its second consecutive regional title. Hursey was also named to the 2010 All-BIG EAST team after SU matched a program-best third-place finish.
Since Chris Fox assumed the head coaching position in 2005, seven SU women have earned 12 All-Academic honors.
