RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan College freshman Malin Olsson (Malmo, Sweden) was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women's Indoor Track & Field Performer of the Week for the fourth time this season on Tuesday. Olsson broke her own school record in the long jump at last Wednesday's Manhattan Invitational.
On her fifth attempt of the competition, Olsson bettered her previous record with a leap of 6.14 meters (20 feet, 1½ inches), becoming the first Manhattan woman ever to jump 20 feet indoors. Then in her final attempt, Olsson shattered the record once again, jumping 6.24 m (20'5¾). The mark, the 13th-best in the NCAA this season, was just shy of the NCAA automatic qualifier of 6.28 meters. She also automatically qualified for the European Under-23 Championships, which will be held in Ostrava, Czech Republic in July.
Olsson was previously named MAAC Performer of the Week on Dec. 7, Dec. 14 and Jan. 18.
She's the favorite to win the women's long jump at the MAAC Indoor Championships, which take place on Friday night at the Armory Track & Field Center on 168th Street. Both the Manhattan men's and women's teams are the defending champions.
