Landover, MD -
Spurred by a second-place finish in the distance medley relay, the Wagner men's track & field team placed 10th of 11 teams with 12 points at the 2011 Northeast Conference (NEC) Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Prince George Sports & Learning Complex..

The DMR quartet of Daniel Zaccarielo (Fr., Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph's By The Sea), senior Derek Schultz (Sr., Ocean Port, NJ / Shore Regional), Faisal Abdillahi (Lewiston, ME / Lewiston) and junior Thomas Iannacone (Havertown, PA / St. Joe's Prep) narrowly missed gold, placing second in an IC4A qualifying time of 10:16.78 as Saint Francis (PA) won by a scant .19 seconds.

The rest of the day was filled with heartbreak for the Seahawks. Junior Colin Macdonald (Dix Hills, NY / Commack) missed scoring in the 500 meter run, placing ninth in a time of 1:07.37, while Zaccarielo also finished ninth in the 800 meters (1:57.59). Junior Zachary Spector (Yaphank, NY / Longwood) did not get a chance to finish in the 5000 meter run after losing his shoe on the second lap.

Iannacone was the only other scorer for the Geen & White, placing fifth in the 3000 meter run with a season-best time of 8:36.80 on day one of the championships.

The Central Connecticut State men completed their ascension from the basement to the penthouse by scoring a meet-high 114 points to win the team title at the 2011 Northeast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Blue Devils' Nutmeg State rival Sacred Heart beat out defending champion Long Island for the runner-up trophy by the slimmest of margins. SHU tallied 109 points to LIU's 108.

CCSU collected three individual post-meet awards, and none of the recipients were on the team two years ago. Sophomore sprinter Aaron Radden (Waterbury, CT/Sacred Heart HS) picked up his second NEC Most Valuable Performer award in his second trip to the NEC Indoor Championships.

Wagner returns to action on Friday, February 25 at the NYU Fast Track meet.
