Georgia commit Ryan Buskey (Colonie) had some unfinished business with Franklin Field, after a 13th place finish his sophomore year, and no attendance in 2025. Since then, he's cleared 7-feet every season indoor and out, and was ready to take on the world at Penn Relays. The current State Leader came into the center circle as the favorite, and left with his watch.
Buskey had a clean sheet through 6-9, but fell to second after a first-round miss at 6-10.25. After a clearance, he took a bold strategy to pass on 6-11.5. Only Darius Reed of PA was left in the competition, and had he made the height, the pressure to answer would have been intense. However, it was three straight misses at 6-11.5 for Reed, placing him first, unless Buskey could come back at 7-0.25 with a clearance.
A miss on the first attempt. A miss on the second attempt. One final attempt, and it was a big clearance, securing the win, and etching his name into history (see video below). He moved the bar up once more, to 7-3.25, but couldn't hit the height.
Buskey's win means New York swept the event at Penn Relays for the first time ever, with Kate Voelker taking the win for the girls the previous day.
It was the first win for a New Yorker since Oneil Sandiford of Paul Robeson won back in 2010 at 6-11.5. Only 8 other New Yorkers have won the event since it was added in 1961.
