Track Teams To Host Upstate Challenge This Weekend

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell track and field teams will play host to the Upstate Challenge this weekend, with events taking place both Friday and Saturday at Barton Hall. A special highlight of the meet this weekend will be the appearance of American pole vault record holder Jenn Stuczynski-Suhr, who will compete in the women's pole vault on Friday night.

A native of Fredonia, N.Y., Stuczynski-Suhr will compete in the Invitational section of the Upstate Challenge, which is slated to begin at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. She is the only American woman to ever clear 16-feet in the pole vault, and has the second-best all-time pole vault performance in the world.

In addition to the appearance of Stuczynski-Suhr, Saturday's events will include the prestigious Hartshorne Masters Mile races between 10:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m., prior to the start of the main portion of the collegiate meet.

The Collegiate portion of the meet will include teams from Cornell, Syracuse, Binghamton, Buffalo, Cortland State and Ithaca College. Action on Friday night begins at 4:30 p.m. with the multi-event competitions and will continue until approximately 10 p.m. Saturday, the meet gets going in full swing with the open events. Action begins at 9 am.m with the continuation of the multi-events, while the main part of the meet will begin at 1 p.m. and wrapping up around 7 p.m.
