ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Big Red women got off to a very successful start to their track season with the Cornell Relays on Saturday in Barton Hall. A high-quality early season meet, two new Barton Hall records were set as 17 schools and eight club teams took part. The Cornell women were impressive, winning eight times with over 30 top-five finishes to go along with a pair of ECAC qualifiers and three alterations to the school all-time top 10 lists.
Junior Dani Silas impressed with a big personal best of 8.79 to win the 60 hurdles. An ECAC qualifier, her time is also #6 all-time at Cornell. Classmate Kate Schillinger set a personal best 9.10 in the prelims and finished fifth in the final. Yet another junior,
Molly Glantz, ran to victory in the 500, crossing the line in the 10th best time in school history, 1:15.37. Freshman Ryan Wooley had a good first race to place second, running 1:17.21. Also doing very well on the track were junior
Melissa Hewitt (40.51, 2nd, #8 all-time) and Reimnitz (40.77, 3rd) in the 300 and senior co-captain
Mecha Santos (4th, 7.87) in the 60. A pair of freshmen sprinters also looked strong:
Anjelique Parnell was fifth in the 60 at 7.88 and
Ebolutalese Airewele had a pair of good races (6th, 7.96 in the 60 and 5th, 41.55 in the 300). Senior
Katie Sullivan was fourth in the 3K in 10:26.06 and freshman Liz Simpson was sixth in 10:33.33.
In the field, the Cornell women had a pair of first place finishes: senior co-captain Kim Lienhoop won the high jump with a clearance of 5-5 and sophomore
Victoria Imbesi reached 43-1 1/2 to claim the shot put. Junior
Erin Rossi had a personal best 49-4 1/2 to place second in the weight throw while senior Cassie Schweighofer placed second in the shot put at 42-9 3/4 and fourth in the weight at 48-3 1/2. Junior
Kristin Brandt had a good series in the triple jump to start her season on a positive note, reaching 38-8 1/4 to place second in the triple jump. Sophomore Becky Delong was second in the long jump at 17-9, while freshman
Shannon Daniels (17-4), Schillinger (17-3 1/2) and Brandt (17-2) took the next three places. Elsewhere in the jumps, freshman
Sarah Udelhofen placed fifth in the high jump at 5-3. Also doing well was sophomore
Claire Dishong, who was fourth in the pole vault at 11-3 3/4.

Final exams begin next week at Cornell. After winter break, the Big Red returns to action with the Southern Tier Collegiate Open at Barton Hall on Friday, January 7 and then will travel for the first time to the Penn State Nittany Lion Challenge on January 15.
