ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- A pair of athletes with Cornell ties are among the 2010 class of inductees into the Niagara Track and Field Hall of Fame, announced on Tuesday. Stephanie Best, a 1991 graduate of Cornell, and Harry Franklin Porter, a 1905 graduate, were part of the six-member class to be inducted.

Best, who was the 1990 Outdoor Heptagonal Championships Most Outstanding Performer after winning the 1500m and 3000m double, setting a meet record in the 3000m in the process, won a bronze medal in the 1999 Pan-Am Games in the 1500m and was a member of the 1999 IAAF World Championships team for the United States in the same event. She won the silver medal at the 1999 USA Track and Field Championships to garner her spot on the team at the world championships.

Porter, meanwhile, was the 1908 Olympic Champion in the high jump and won five United States championships, claiming titles indoors in 1908 and 1911 and outdoors in 1907, 1908 and 1909.

Best and Porter are the 20th and 21st athletes with Cornell ties to be added to the Niagara Track and Field Hall of Fame. The Hall currently has 59 members, consisting of 50 men and nine women. Both Best and Porter are members of the Cornell Athletics Hall of Fame, with Best being inducted in 2001 and Porter earning his induction in 1987.

The purpose of the Niagara Track & Field Hall of Fame is to recognize those individuals who made significant and outstanding contributions to the Sport of Athletics (including Track & Field, Long Distance Running, Race Walking, and Cross Country Running) while living within the geographic boundaries of the Niagara Association (New York State West of and including the counties of Oswego, Onondaga, Cortland, and Broome) as athletes (including Masters), coaches, and/or administrators (including Competition Officials).
