SYRACUSE, N.Y.
– For the second time in as many years, the Syracuse University men and women's cross country teams captured the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship on Saturday. The event was hosted by Yale and Fairfield Universities at Hammonasset State Park in Madison, Conn.

Five harriers from each team earned All-Northeast Region honors for their performances at the meet. Sophomore Forrest Misenti was the first runner to cross the finish line for the Orange in the 10k race in sixth place overall with a time of 29:55.7. Pat Dupont (30:04.7), Tito Medrano (30:15.1), Steve Murdock (30:21.6) and Steve Weeks (30:23.6) rounded out the men who earned all-region accolades.

On the women's side, junior Lauren Penney led all SU competitors with a ninth-place finish in the 6k event at 20:20.3. Joining Penney in the top-20 and garnering all-region honors was Catherine DeSarle (20:28.0), Heather Stephens (20:39.6), Katie Hursey (20:43.7) and Natalie Busby (20:44.5).

"We are very proud to repeat as regional champions," said head coach Chris Fox. "The kids refused to lose and we look forward to improving our nationals placing."

The eighth-ranked women and 14th-ranked Orange men will travel to Terre Haute, Ind. to compete in the NCAA Championship meet on Monday, November 22. Last year at the national meet, both teams earned their highest finishes in program history. The men finished 14th overall, while the women took 18th.
