ITHACA, N.Y.
– The Syracuse University cross country team competed in the John Reif Memorial on Friday at Cornell University. Six freshmen competed for the women and all finished in the top 15 out of 42 runners and the seven men's runners each finished in the top 20.

Brenna Symoniak was SU's first runner to cross the finish line at 18:58.2, good for a second-place overall finish. She was followed closely by Ashley Smolinka (19.02.5), Julie Jablonski (19:05.8) and Lauren Kersjes (19:14.7), who claimed the next three spots. Alexandra Clinton and Erin Cawley rounded out the Orange's competitors in the top-15.

Joseph Bubniak lead the Orange men with a fourth-place finish overall at 26:17.4. Zach Rivers (26:32.6) and Patrick Geoghegan (26:36.8) were SU's other top-10 finishers. Matthew Bennett (26:42.2), Erin Schirm (26:43.6), Roman Acosta (26:43.6) and Jonathan Aziz (27:28.9) completed the list of top finishers for the Orange.

The nationally ranked Orange is preparing to host its first BIG EAST Championship on October 30 at Jamesville Beach Park. The women are currently ranked seventh, while the men are 17th. The Orange men are ultimately focused on repeating as BIG EAST Champions, while the women look to improve on last year's program-best third-place finish. Visit Championship Central for meet details.
