HAMILTON, N.Y.
– The Syracuse University cross country team turned in another impressive performance at the Colgate Invitational on Saturday. Both the men and women's teams have secured first-place finishes in back-to-back seasons at Colgate. The Orange was right at home at Lang Cross Country Course as it has returned to compete on that course in each of the last four years.

Senior Steve Murdock (25:27.00) crossed the finish line first in the men's 8k run to lead a pack of six Orange harriers that claimed the top six spots. Following Murdock across the finish line, all within 11 seconds, were Forrest Misenti, Steve Weeks, Tito Medrano, Sean Keefe and Corey Robinson. The women secured five of the top 10 spots in the 6k race, including junior Lauren Penney (21:36.00), who finished second behind Colgate's Elise DeRoo. Rounding out SU's top 10 finishers were Katie Hursey, Sarah Pagano, Catherine DeSarle and Natalie Busby.

Head coach Chris Fox was pleased with the second consecutive strong showing by the SU harriers. “It was exactly what we wanted,” said Fox. “A strong showing before we go to Wisconsin. Both teams were very solid.”

The Orange will have two weeks to train hard and prepare for its first key meet of the season. Syracuse will travel to Madison, Wis. for the Wisconsin Adidas Interregional. Last season, the men returned home from Wisconsin with a first-place finish, while the women took second. SU will compete in four key races prior to the BIG EAST Championship, which will be hosted by Syracuse on October 30 at Jamesville Beach Park.
