WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The Cornell men's cross country squad opened their 2010 season with a convincing win against the Army at West Point on Friday afternoon. The Big Red were led by the 1-2 punch of seniors Adrien Dannemiller and Nate Edelman and defeated the Black Knights, 24-35, as Cornell took 10 of the first 13 places.

With the Cornell men's top fifteen runners sticking together through 3 miles, Dannemiller (who won this dual meet at West Point in 2008) and Edelman (who won this dual meet at Cornell's Moakley Course in 2009) surged away after the second ascent up the Ski Slope on the Army Golf Course. The two seniors broke the race open and pulled away to cross the line comfortably ahead of Army's first three runners. Dannemiller finished in 25:23 for 8K with Edelman four seconds back. Sophomore Adam Trofa had a very good race to place sixth in 25:50 and classmate Brett Kelly was seventh in 25:54. Freshman Gabe Heck closed out the top five for the Big Red, crossing the line in 25:56 for eighth. Freshman David Forward (9th, 25:57) and senior Steve Soprano (10th, 26:00) rounded out Cornell's top seven. Also running well were sophomore Chandler Kemp (11th, 26:01), senior Max Kasak (12th, 26:06) and sophomore Matt McCullough (13th, 26:08).
