9/1/2010 1:17:10 PM | Men's Soccer, Cross Country

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior #L.J. Papaleo# (Manlius, N.Y.) and senior Catherine DeSarle (Stormville, N.Y.) are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of Aug. 30, 2010.

Papaleo played in 14 games last season for the Orange, recording one goal and two assists as a midfielder. He was named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team and to the SU Athletic Director's Honor Roll in both semesters. He is one of eight returning letterwinners from last year's roster that will lead the Orange into the 2010 campaign.

Papaleo, a supply chain management major in the Whitman School of Management, and the Orange kick off the 2010 season tonight, Sept. 1, at the SU Soccer Stadium against Siena at 7 p.m.

DeSarle was a key member of the 2009 cross country team that captured its first Northeast Regional Championship in program history and finished third at the BIG EAST Championship. The Orange is ranked first in the northeast region and ninth nationally heading into the 2010 season.

DeSarle, a dual major in chemistry and forensic science, and the Orange will get the chance to compete on their home course twice this season when SU hosts the BIG EAST Preview on Sept. 11 and the BIG EAST Championship on Oct. 30. The BIG EAST Preview, which is the season-opener for Syracuse, is set for a 9 a.m. start time at Jamesville Beach Park.
