ITHACA, N.Y. -- Tom Gage '65, a member of the Cornell Athletics Hall of Fame, passed away on Thursday at his home in Billings, Mont. Gage was inducted into the Cornell Hall of Fame in 1988 and competed at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany. He was 67.

An outstanding thrower, Gage had continued his athletic career even up to recent weeks. Gage most recently finished first in the weight throw and the super weight and second in the hammer at the M65 Hayward Masters Classic on June 26-27, in Eugene, Ore.

Gage was the IC4A hammer throw champion in 1965 and won three Heptagonal Championships, claiming the shot put and the weight throw in 1965 after claiming the hammer title in 1964. Gage then won the hammer at the 1967 Pan American Games.

Gage still stands second in the outdoor shot put, third in the indoor shot put, fourth on the Cornell all-time list for the hammer throw, and eighth in the indoor weight throw, despite having those marks standing for more than 45 years.

Funeral services for Gage, who is survived by his wife, Reba, will be on Thursday, July 22, at 1 p.m. at the Cremation and Funeral Gallery in Billings, Mont. His wife has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to some sort of track and field association.
