Standridge Qualifies For NCAA Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Good things continued on Friday for the Big Red at the NCAA First Round at North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, NC.

Junior Kim Standridge ran the #3 time in school history to place third in her quarterfinal heat of the 800, crossing the line in 2:05.37. Standridge earned a spot in the NCAA Final Round in Eugene, OR, where she'll compete in the 800 semifinal on Wednesday, June 9.

Also competing on Friday in Greensboro was sophomore Bob Belden, who placed 25th with a throw of 56-4. In addition, senior Natalie Gengel placed 34th with a clearance of 11-9 3/ in the women's pole vault. A day after an impressive PR, freshman Nick Wade placed 23rd in the 800, running 1:53.43 to conclude a fantastic rookie year. Sophomore Brian Freitas was unable to finish his quarterfinal round of the 400 hurdles.

The men's and women's steeplechase quarterfinals were also scheduled for Friday evening but both events were post-poned until early Saturday morning because of severe thunderstorms that hit the area on Friday night. Junior Adrien Dannemiller will compete at 9:30 AM and seniors Stephanie Pancoast and Erin Roberts will race at 10:10 AM.

Also competing on Saturday will be Belden and senior Scott Jaffee in the men's discus, seniors Gary Jones and Duane Teixeira in the men's triple jump, freshman Kelsey Karys in the women's 5000 and the men's 4X400 relay.
