ITHACA, N.Y. -- The NCAA announced the fields of 48 athletes per event for the two first-round sites for the 2010 NCAA Championships, and 22 Cornell athletes were among the competitors listed for the East qualifying site, which will be contested on May 27-29 in Greensboro, N.C. Duane Teixeira and sophomore
Bob Belden - will compete in a pair of events.
Under the new format adopted for the 2010 season, the top 12 finishers in each event will advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be held on June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore. For the opening round, the top 48 athletes in each event will compete to advance to the championship meet. For relay events, the top 24 teams will compete, with the top 12 advancing to the NCAA Championships.
Teixeira is the highest-entered Big Red athlete, ranking fifth in the East region in the long jump. He will also compete in the triple jump, where he is ranked 46th. Belden will also compete in a pair of events, throwing in the shot put, where he is ranked 19th, and the discus, where he is ranked 41st.
Joining Teixeira in the two jumping events will be Josh Kirkpatrick in the long jump, ranked 25th, and
Gary Jones in the triple jump, where he is ranked 22nd.
In all, Cornell's men's team has qualified 13 athletes to compete in 12 different events, while the women's team will have nine athletes competing in eight events. The full list of qualified Cornell athletes is below, with their entry time or mark and their event rank.
