ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Cornell men hosted their final home meet of the 2010 season, competing against Cobleskill, Cortland, Mansfield, Oneonta, Syracuse and Utica at the Cornell Outdoor Invitational on Saturday. With warm spring conditions throughout the day, the Big Red had 11 event wins, thirteen IC4A qualifiers and seven alterations to the all-time to ten lists in their final tune-up before the outdoor Heps.
One of the most impressive set of performances came in the 400 hurdles, as sophomores
Nick Huber and
Brian Freitas both were well under the old track record. Huber ran 51.91, with Freitas close behind in 51.92, as they reached #7 and #8 on the all-time Cornell list in easily bettering the IC4A standard. Huber also moved up to #9 all-time in the 110 hurdles, winning in 14.61 while senior
Ola Williams was third at 14.65 and sophomore Dan Hagbert third at 14.81 as all three were IC4A qualifiers. Also doing a terrific job was the 4X100, as sophomore
Chase Aaronson, freshman Jedidiah Yiadom-Adarquah, senior Josh Kirkatrick and freshman
Bruno Hortelano-Roig ran 40.91, moving them up to to #3 all-time at Cornell, behind only the legendary teams from the 1970s. Throwing huge in the throws was sophomore
Bob Belden who had a big personal best for the second straight week, this time reaching 58-10 3/4 to move to #3 all-time at Cornell. He also placed second in the discus at 164-2, with senior
Scott Jaffee in first at 167-4 as both exceeded the IC4A standard.
Back on the track, junior
Chris Tait has a big open personal best to win the 400 in 48.20, an IC4A qualifier while sophomore Dan Thomas also impressed, running 48.60 for second. Junior Rick Semenick also did a good job, winning the 200 in 21.87 while sophomore
Cody Boyd (21.89) and Thomas (22.35) were second and third. Freshman
David McCuiston led another 1-2-3 Cornell sweep in the 800 as he ran 1:52.22 and junior Tommy Roy ran 1:52.30 with freshman Will McFall close behind in 1:52.94. Freshman Robert Micikas also placed first, winning the 1500 in 3:55.51 with classmate
Kevin Johnson third in 3:56.30. In the pole vault, the senior tandem of
Jason Inzana and Rich Zamora both cleared 16-0 3/4 and they are now tied for #6 all-time. In the high jump, sophomore
Chris Arlinghaus won with an IC4A-qualifying lea of 6-8 1/4 while senior
Jay Pierce was second at 6-6 1/4 and Huber third at 6-4 1/4. Elsewhere in the field, senior Julian Remounds won the triple jump at 46-10 1/4 while freshman
Jourdan White (45-7 /34) and junior
Enbani Moore (42-8) were second and third. Remounds also placed second in the long jump at 23-2 1/2, placing only behind Muhammad Halim '08 who reached 25-8, a personal best and a new Kane complex record.
