CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Junior Jarret Eaton and graduate student Michael LeBlanc made a bold statement on the final day of the BIG EAST Championship at the University of Cincinnati's Gettler Stadium. The pair teamed up with graduate student Antoine Clark and freshman Darryl White to win the 400m relays (40.63), before Eaton went on to win the 110m hurdles in a career-best, NCAA Regional-qualifying time of 13.85. LeBlanc followed suit in his respective event, taking the crown in the 100m dash (10.47) for the second year in a row.

Both Eaton and LeBlanc's efforts led the Orange men to a seventh-place finish, their best mark since 2007 when they finished fourth. The women, headed by senior two-time defending BIG EAST pentathlon champion Uhunoma Osazuwa, finished eighth, a four-spot improvement from last year.

Sophomore Ieva Staponkute joined LeBlanc and Eaton to earn All-BIG EAST laurels after finishing second in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 12.24m.

Graduate student Bernard Bush ran alongside LeBlanc in the 100m dash and took fifth with a time of 10.80. LeBlanc also placed fifth in the 200m dash (21.61) for his final race.

Eaton and freshmen teammates Tyler McCully and Amadou Gueye as well as sophomore Matthew Callanan participated in the final event of the conference championships. They placed ninth in the 1,600m relay with a time of 3:16.18.

A trio of Orange women ran the 5,000-meter, including junior Katie Hursey, who posted an eighth-place finish in ECAC-qualifying fashion of 17:01.41. Senior Stefanie Slekis was on her heels, placing ninth with a time of 17:05.45, while sophomore Lauren Penney earned 11th (17:18.49). Graduate student Jeff Scull took the top time for the men with a fifth-place showing of 14:10.07. Senior Brad Miller and sophomore Corey Robinson were hot on his trail with seventh- and ninth-place times of 14:14.86 and 14:21.41, respectively. Sophomore Griff Graves (14:29.41) and senior Dan Busby (14:33.15) rounded out the Orange competition in the distance event.

In the field, junior Kwaku Boah earned 12th with a measurement of 49.56 in the hammer throw. In the high jump, Osazuwa took second with a season-best mark of 1.80m, while fellow senior Melissa Romero tied for ninth (1.70m).

Syracuse continues its championship season at the ECAC/IC4A Championships in Princeton, N.J. starting on Friday, May 14.
