ITHACA, N.Y. --
The Big Red track and field teams hosted their final home meet of the year on Saturday, competing in warm spring conditions at the Cornell Outdoor Invitational on Saturday. Cornell competed against squads from Cobleskill, Cortland, Mansfield, Oneonta, Syracuse and Utica as well as several club teams. In their final tune-up for the outdoor Heps next week, the Big Red women won 13 times, had seven ECAC qualifiers, a school record and five alterations to the school's all-time lists.

One of the highlights on the day for the women came in the 4x100 as the quartet of junior Mecha Santos, sophomore Melissa Hewitt, senior Megan Williams and senior Kate Backel combined to set a new Kane Complex, new school and new Ivy League record of 45.60. Junior Cassie Schweighofer was terrific, winning twice and placing second in a third event. She won the discus in an ECAC-qualifying 153-10 and placed first in the shot in 41-8 3/4. Freshman Claire Dishon was second in the discus at 135-6 and freshman Emily Koppelman the runner-up in the shot put at 41-4 1/2. Schweighofer later placed second in the hammer  at 150-11, behind sophomore Erin Rossi, who threw 157-9 for the win.

Senior Natalie Gengel and freshman Lindsey Paterson both cleared 12-1 1/2 (with Patterson moving to #2 all-time) in the pole vault as they finished first and second; sophomore Sam Brady was third at 11-9 3/4.  In the long jump, junior Kim Lienhoop moved to #6 all-time with a first-place finish of 19-6, which was also an ECAC qualifier. Freshman Rebecca DeLong continued to jump well, placing second at 18-9 while Hewitt was third at 18-7 1/4. On the track, senior Jessica Weyman broke her own track record in the 400 hurdles, running the #2 time in school history, 59.52.  Sophomore Molly Glantz was second in 61.36 and freshman Mari Giurastante third in 61.89. Junior Kim Standridge ran well to take the 400 in a personal best 56.36 while freshman Libby O'Brien was second in 57.71. In the 1500, senior Caroline Heidt was first in 4:40.42 while sophomore Meghan Brown (4:41.54), junior Anna Scull (4:42.36) and sophomore Emma Clarke (4:45.47) took the next three spots. Senior Stephanie Pancoast won the 3000 steeplechase in 11:05.54 with junior Maura Carroll (11:09.70) and Robyn Ellerbrock '07) 11:14.61 placing second and third. In the 100 hurdles, junior Dani Silas moved to #8 all-time at Cornell in running 14.38; classmate Taylor Baird (14.56) and junior Lauren Tanz (14.72) both had seasonal bests to get second and third. Freshman Cara Costich won the 3000 in a personal best 10:13.51 with junior Kristin Sellers third at 10:33.61. In the 800, several runners ran very fast but unfortunately were started at the wrong line; in the end, freshman Alyssa O'Connor was the top Cornell finisher among those that ran the full distance, placing second in 2:15.11.
