ITHACA, N.Y. -- After a busy week at the Penn Relays, the Cornell track and field teams played host to 17 college and club teams on Sunday at the Big Red Invitational at the Robert J. Kane Sports Complex.  Despite cool and rainy weather, the wind was mild and there were a number of very strong performances.

The men had five event wins and four IC4A qualifiers.  Senior Gary Jones reached 49-4 1/2 to win the triple jump and was followed closely by classmate Duane Teixeira, who had a mark of 48-11 3/4 to get second as both bettered the IC4A standard.  Fellow senior Scott Jaffee also had a good day, winning the discus in an IC4A-qualifying 167-2.  Another senior, Rick Zamora, won the pole vault with an IC4A-qualifying 15-9.  Cornell's final IC4A qualifier on the day was yet another member of the senior class, Ola Williams, who was third in the 110 hurdles at 14.75.  And the Big Red's other event win came from sophomore Chandler Kemp, who took the 3000 steeplechase in 9:29.05.  Other good efforts came junior Brad Herynk in the 100 (2nd, 11.13), sophomore Dan Thomas in the 400 (2nd, 49.07), junior Aaron Anderson in the 800 (2nd, 1:55.03), sophomore Steve Wexler in the 400 hurdles (2nd, 54.11) and sophomore Chris Arlinghaus (2nd, 6-6 1/4) and senior Scott Gorski (2nd, 6-2 1/4) in the high jump.
