ITHACA, N.Y. -- After a busy week at the Penn Relays, the Cornell track and field teams played host to 17 college and club teams on Sunday at the Big Red Invitational at the Robert J. Kane Sports Complex. Despite cool and rainy weather, the wind was mild and there were a number of very strong performances.
The men had five event wins and four IC4A qualifiers. Senior
Gary Jones reached 49-4 1/2 to win the triple jump and was followed closely by classmate
Duane Teixeira, who had a mark of 48-11 3/4 to get second as both bettered the IC4A standard. Fellow senior
Scott Jaffee also had a good day, winning the discus in an IC4A-qualifying 167-2. Another senior, Rick Zamora, won the pole vault with an IC4A-qualifying 15-9. Cornell's final IC4A qualifier on the day was yet another member of the senior class,
Ola Williams, who was third in the 110 hurdles at 14.75. And the Big Red's other event win came from sophomore
Chandler Kemp, who took the 3000 steeplechase in 9:29.05. Other good efforts came junior
Brad Herynk in the 100 (2nd, 11.13), sophomore Dan Thomas in the 400 (2nd, 49.07), junior
Aaron Anderson in the 800 (2nd, 1:55.03), sophomore Steve Wexler in the 400 hurdles (2nd, 54.11) and sophomore
Chris Arlinghaus (2nd, 6-6 1/4) and senior
Scott Gorski (2nd, 6-2 1/4) in the high jump.

Next up is another home meet, the Cornell Outdoor Invitational, on Saturday, May 1 and then the Big Red will head to Princeton for the Outdoor Heps on May 8-9 and again for the ECACs on May 14-16.
