Syracuse Adds Four BIG EAST Qualifers

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Syracuse University track and field team had four new BIG EAST qualifiers and four crowns during its final tune-up before postseason competition at the Cornell Big Red Invitational on Sunday, April 25.
For the women, Junior Elizabeth McCarter qualified for BIG EAST competition in the 1,500-meter event with a time of 4:36.91. Newcomer Erin Cawley also earned a crown and punched her ticket to the conference championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:10.08. Senior Lynne Mundy also qualified for BIG EAST Championships after turning in a second place finish in the steeplechase (11:10.99), while junior Tricia Wardwell rounded out the top three (11:37.88).
On the men's side, graduate student Antoine Clark earned BIG EAST qualifying marks in both the 100-meter dash (10.84) and 200-meter dash (22.06), while his performance in the 100-meter dash qualified for the IC4A. Sophomore Matthew Callanan earned his second BIG EAST eligible mark in the 110-meter hurdles (14.84), while also qualifying for IC4A Championships.
Sophomore Lauryn MacFawn took third place for the Orange in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:53.75, while senior Jenna Bieri finished seventh.
In the field, freshman Aubree Mercure recorded a leap of 10.48m in the triple jump, placing fifth, while fellow freshman Erica Belanger placed eighth in the high jump (1.50m).
In the 10,000-meter run, freshman Robert Molke (30.37.92), sophomore Ramon Acosta (30:43.74), and freshman Sean Keefe (30:47.45) finished one, two, three. Michael Brocks took second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:36.48, while freshman Jon Aziz placed third in the 5,000-meter run. Freshman Tyler McCully and sophomore Greg Manning-Smith each earned a fourth place finish in the 400-meter dash and the 1,500-meter run, respectively.
Junior Victor Nwosu completed the long jump with a mark of 6.84m to place second, while freshman Will Watson had a leap of 6.79 in the long jump, finishing third.
Next up for the Orange is the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships beginning Friday, April 30 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
