Orange Boasts Nine Top Five Finishers at Larry Ellis

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Orange had nine runners finish in the top five in Friday's distance events at the Larry Ellis Invitational, including a first-place victory for junior Rebekah MacKay in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. MacKay (10:20.07) led a pack of Orange women who finished in the top five in the event and earned BIG EAST qualifying times. Senior Stefanie Slekis (10:53.05), sophomore Heather Stephens (10:23.77), sophomore Natalie Busby (10:29.41) and junior Cassie White (10:29.87) finished behind MacKay, as Slekis and Busby both set personal-bests in the event.
Among the other top finishers was sophomore Tito Medrano, who set a career-best in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:03.87. Graduate student Nana Sang-Bender recorded a personal-best in the 5,000-meter run (16:44.35), while junior Katie Hursey (4:28.28) and senior Dan Busby (3:46.35) rounded out the top five competitors for Syracuse, all of whom hit BIG EAST qualifying marks.
The Orange saw eight additional student-athletes earn BIG EAST qualifying times. Senior Curtis Bixler (9:18.94) and junior Michael Brocks (9:23.17) qualified in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and freshman Ari Kasprowicz (17:18.12) qualified in the 5,000-meter run. Additionally, junior Corey Robinson (14:14.84), sophomore Griff Graves (14:18.66), graduate student Jeff Scull (14:21.62), senior Jay Koloseus (14:34.16) and freshman Robert Molke (14:40.25) all earned BIG EAST qualifying-times in the 5,000-meter run.
