Aisling Cuffe (photo by Tim Fulton) was tuning up for the Penn Relays 3000m next week with a fast pace at the Red Raider Relays at North Rockland HS. Cuffe ran a NYS #1 time of 4:58.71 for 1600m, winning by almost 13 seconds.
Other highlights included Nanuet freshman Megan Young winning the 3200m run in 10:54.28, also a NYS #1 time. Lakeland/Panas junior Brie Roller was the top qualifier in the 400m dash with a time of 58.85.
North Babylon's Vanessa Stewart tossed the shot 47-10.5 for a new meet record and NYS #1. Riverhead's Mike Smith won the disc with a 154-10 heave.
The boys 1600m run was won by Bay Shore's Mike Mauro in 4:25.70. Nick Hughes of North Rockland, the NYS Class AA XC Champ, won the 3200m in 9:31.94. Hughes had struggled a bit indoors so it was good to see him back on top.
NEW YORK RELAYS TOP MARKS
Emily Lipari (Roslyn, NY) ran a US#1 time of 9:46.74 in the 3000m to set meet and stadium records. Emily will race in the 3000m next weekend at The Penn Relays.
