Iannacone Shatters 3000-Meter Record

Sophomore Thomas Iannacone (Havertown, PA/St. Joe's Prep) led the way for the Wagner College Men's Outdoor Track and Field at the final day of the Lou Onesty Invitational at the University of Virginia on Saturday. Iannacone broke a four-year old record in the 3000-meter run, finishing the event in 8:36.35.

Iannacone took third place out of 23 athletes in the 3000-meter run, breaking a four-year old record set by Kyle Sultzer (8:47.1) in 2006. Sophomore Zachary Spector (Yaphank, NY/Longwood) also provided an impressive finish in the event – placing eighth with a time of 8:48.76.

Seniors James Johnston (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) and Kevin Kearney (Haddonfield, NJ/St. Joe's Prep) both provided season-best times in their respective events. Johnston placed fifth out of 21 athletes in the 1500-meter dash. His time of 3:58.96 is the second-best finish this season. Kearney was equally dominant in the 800-meter dash, finishing in 11th place with a time of 1:56.89.

Other impressive finishes for the Seahawks include junior Derek Schultz (Ocean Port, NJ/Shore Regional), registered a season-best time in the 400-meter dash. Schultz finished in 12th place out of 24 athletes with a time of 58.05. Phillip Nelson (Indianapolis, IN/Governor Dummer Academy) also had season-best finishes in the 110-meter hurdles (16.90) and the triple jump (12.52 meters).

The men return to action on Wednesday, April 14th. The Seahawks will host the Wagner Quad at 3:00 PM.
