Osazuwa Takes Second, Proves to be Among the Best

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – All-American Uhunoma Osazuwa proved she was among the best in the nation as she took second overall and was the top collegian heptathlete at the 44th-annual Sea Ray Relays hosted by University of Tennessee. The meet, which joins the top NCAA-qualifiers in the nation, is one of the top competitions of the season for multi-events. Osazuwa finished with a lifetime best and NCAA provisional-qualifying score of 5,378 points, which places her fourth in the NCAAs nationally for the heptathlon.

“Coming to Tennessee, I expected to either match my PR or do better,” Osazuwa said. “I wanted to get a good enough score to get me into NCAAs early rather than having to worry about relying on a later meet. It feels great to PR, but to do it this early in the season makes me excited for what I'll be able to do later on.”

Osazuwa finished second to former heptathlon All-American Tammilee Kerr (2008) from Iowa. She earned her best finish of the afternoon in the long jump (5.88m), finishing first. Osazuwa also earned fourth place in the javelin (34.56m) and 11th in the 800-meter run (2:33.99). The senior standout went into Thursday's events holding a slim first-place lead over Kentucky's Precious Nwokey, 3,358 to 3,349.

“There were some great competitors at the meet in each event,” Osazuwa said. “I definitely feel that the level of talent in field was what helped me be able to put up the score I did.”

Osazuwa will resume competition at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. beginning on April 22.
