Osazuwa Faces Top Level Competition at Sea Ray Relays

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Senior Orange All-American Uhunoma Osazuwa will see how she stacks up against the nation's elite when she competes in the 44th-annual Sea Ray Relays hosted by University of Tennessee. The Sea Ray Relays is one of the three largest heptathlons of the regular season and will take place at the newly-refurbished Tom Black Track and LaPorte Stadium. The heptathlon will commence with the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200-meter on Wednesday at 2 p.m. and will conclude with the long jump, javelin and 800-meter run on Thursday, April 8 at 3 p.m.
Osazuwa became SU's first indoor All-American in eight years and joined just 13 former Orange athletes who have earned the prestigious honor after placing sixth with 4,061 points at the NCAA Track & Field Indoor Championships. She bested her former career best mark of 3,942 after her first-place finish in the long jump (6.08m). In a field of 16 other pentathletes, she finished tied for fifth in the high jump (1.71m), ninth in the 60m hurdles (8.63) and 11th in both the shot put (11.18m) and 800m run (2:27.52).
The Las Vegas native was crowned last year's BIG EAST champion in the heptathlon after compiling an NCAA Provisional-qualifying point total of 5,236 by winning the 100-meter hurdles (13.88), high jump (1.76m) and 200-meter dash (25.23). She won her second-consecutive postseason heptathlon title at the ECAC Outdoor Championships with 5,258 points at as junior before being selected as a national qualifier to participate in the 2009 Division I NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship.
