Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College Men's Outdoor Track & Field team had a strong showing at the 2010 Wagner College Invitational on Saturday – headlined by the 4x800-meter team, who placed first with a 8:15.43 finish.

The 4x800-meter team consisting of Thomas Iannacone (Havertown, PA/St. Joe's Prep), Zachary Spector (Yaphank, NJ/Longwood), James Johnston (Middle Island, NY/Longwood), and Thomas Rammelkamp (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) took the top spot from three other teams. Their 8:15.43 finish is a new season-best for the Seahawks.

Junior Derek Schultz (Ocean Port, NJ/Shore Regional) also provided a season-best for the Seahawks in the 400-meter run. Schultz took ninth place out of 43 athletes in the event with 51.33 time. His finish was slightly better than Wagner's previous season-best of 51.97, also set by Schultz, at the Monmouth Invitational last week. Senior Matt Reidy (West Long Branch, NJ/Shore Regional) also represented Wagner well in the event, finishing in 15th place at 52.86.

Senior Matt Villane (Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Regional) added another Wagner College season-best in the 400-meter hurdles. Villane finished in 57.35 for third-place honors out of 20 athletes.

In the 800-meter run, the Seahawks had three top-10 finishes from senior Kevin Kearney (Haddonfield, NJ/St. Joe's Prep), Robert Macdonald (Dix Hills, NY/Commack), and junior Brian Doxey (West Islip, NY/West Islip). Kearney led the pack with a second-place time of 1:59.35 – a new season-best for the Seahawks. Not far behind was MacDonald in sixth place at 2:03.15 and Doxey in eighth place at 2:03.38.

Other impressive Wagner finishes included senior William Berger (Hopewell, VA/Sullivan C.C.), who took third place out of 20 athletes in the 5000-meter run with a time of 16:07.95 and freshman Matt Driscoll (Lewiston, ME/Lewiston), who placed third out of 29 runners in the 1500-meter run with a 4:14.56 finish.

In the field events, Daniel Mercorelli (North Haledon, NJ/De Paul Catholic) placed sixth out of 18 athletes in the Long Jump. He registered at 5.71-meter leap in the event.

The Seahawks return to action on Friday, April 9th, when they travel to the University of Virginia.
