SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior Lydia Wong (San Francisco, Calif.) and junior Steven Weeks (Arvada, Colo.) have been named the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of March 29, 2010.
Wong is the coxswain on the women's rowing team. Over the weekend, Wong coxed the varsity eight boat that defeated Boston University to capture its fourth-consecutive Kittell Cup. The Syracuse boat crossed the finish line at 6:46.66, defeating BU by more than 10 seconds.
Wong is an environmental engineering major in the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science. The women's rowing team travels to Ithaca, N.Y. for the Cayuga Cup beginning April 2.
Weeks is a distance specialist on the track and field team. He finished eighth in the 5,000-meter run at the Stanford Invitational, crossing the finish line in 14:34.31. Weeks was a BIG EAST and IC4A qualifier in the 5,000-meter during the 2009 outdoor season and looks to repeat the feat in 2010.
Weeks is a hospitality and food service management major in the College of Human Ecology. The track and field team travels to Austin, Texas for four days of competition in the prestigious Texas Relays beginning Wednesday, March 31.
