West Long Branch, NJ – Sophomore
Thomas Iannacone (Havertown, PA/St. Joe's Prep) led the Wagner Men's Outdoor Track and Field team at the squad's second event – the 15th Annual Season Opener at Monmouth University on Saturday. In the 1500-meter run, Iannacone took first place out of 106 runners with a season-best time of 4:01.67.
Iannacone later claimed 20th place out of 94 athletes in the 800-meter dash with a time 2:01.76. The time is nearly seven seconds better than Wagner's previous season-best of 2:07.14 set one week ago.
Junior
Derek Schultz (Ocean Port, NJ/Shore Regional) complimented Ianncone's impressive finishes with two outstanding marks of his own. Schultz took 14th place out of 49 athletes in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.44. He later placed 19th out of 75 athletes in the 400-meter dash. Both time's are season-best for the Seahawks.
Other impressive finishes for Wagner include sophomore
Zachary Spector (Yaphank, NY/Longwood), who placed 13 th behind Iannacone in the 1500-meter run and senior
Matt Reidy (West Long Branch, NJ/Shore Regional) and
Matt Villane (Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Regional), who finished 36 th and 37th respectively in the 400-meter dash.
Track and Field will host their annual home invitational on Saturday, April 3rd. The first event are scheduled for 10:00 AM.
