Sang-Bender and Miller Earn Distance Carnival Crowns

STANFORD, Calif. - Graduate student Nana Sang-Bender and senior Brad Miller captured the only two first place finishes for the Orange at the distance carnival of the Stanford Invitational on Friday, Mar. 26. The meet, which took place at Stanford University's Cobb Track and Angell Field, is one of the nation's largest annual track and field competitions.
Sang-Bender earned the top spot in section five of the women's 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:29.36. Miller legged out his first place finish in section two of the men's 5,000-meter race with a time of 13:57.09.
Other top finishers for the Orange women included junior Catherine DeSarle, who took second in section two of the day's longest race, the 10,000-meter, with a time of 34:17.09. Teammate Stefanie Slekis finished 10th overall in that same race. Senior Maegan Krifchin and sophomore Natalie Busby both earned fifth place finishes on Friday in the 1,500-meter run and the 3,000-meter steeplechase, respectively. Junior Katie Hursey placed sixth overall in section two of the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:24.82.
For the men, senior Dan Busby raced to a second place finish in section two of the 5,000-meter run with a time of 13:57.65. Graduate student Jeff Scull finished 10th in that same section. In section four of the 5,000-meter, junior Steve Weeks secured an eighth place finish with a time of 14:34.31, while Jay Koloseus finished ninth in section three. Sophomore Tito Medrano placed 19th in the men's 10,000-meter run with a time of 29:17.92.
Next up for the Orange will be the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas on Wednesday through Saturday, Mar. 31-Apr. 3.
