FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.
– Senior Uhunoma Osazuwa is Syracuse's  first track & field All-American penathlete. She placed sixth with 4,061 points at the NCAA Track & Field Indoor Championships at Randal Tyson Track Center on Saturday morning. In just her first trip to the NCAA Indoor Championship, Osazuwa became SU's first indoor All-American in eight years and joins just 13 former Orange athletes who have earned the prestigious honor.

“Since I found out so late that I had qualified, I wanted to have my best meet thus far and end my senior year the right way,” Osazuwa said. “Finding out that I had become All-American on top of everything was so rewarding. The week leading up to the meet was pretty stressful, but that made the end results even more exciting. I couldn't have done it without Coach (Enoch) Borozinski.”

After being notified of her qualification later than all other competitors, Osazuwa achieved All-America status with the help of her first-place victory in the long jump (6.08m). In a field of 16 other pentathletes, she finished tied for fifth in the high jump (1.71m), ninth in the 60m hurdles (8.63) and 11th in both the shot put (11.18m) and 800m run (2:27.52). Her 4,061 points beats her former career best mark of 3,942, which she set earlier this season at the BIG EAST Championship.

Junior hurdler Jarret Eaton joined Osazuwa at his first Division I National Championship, where he finished 16th in the 60m hurdles preliminary race with a time of 7.86. He qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship after he broke the school record at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York City on Feb. 5 with a first-place NCAA automatic-qualifying time of 7.68. His time, which was the fifth fastest in the nation, earned him the sole title of the USTFCCCA Northeast Region Men's Track Athlete of the Year.

Osazuwa, Eaton and the rest of the Orange will kick off its outdoor season at the Stanford Invitational on Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27.
