Starting this scholastic year, the New York Indoor Track State Meet will move to a two-day format, mirroring the format utilized for the Outdoor Track State Meet.
The Indoor State Meet saw an influx of athletes for its most recent rendition, as a second classification was added to the relay selection and awards process. The move was necessary to mirror participation percentages recommended by NYSPHSAA for Championship event as used by other sports, but also pushed the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility to a near capacity attendance. The move to a two-day format is designed to alleviate those concerns.
The transition was voted on, and approved, at the July 29th NYSPHSAA Central Committee Meeting, after moving through lower committees earlier in the year.
Two other changes were voted on and approved in regards to Indoor Track. Relay Standards for the second classification have been adjusted, based now on data from the previous year that was not available for the introductory year. In addition, mirroring the Outdoor State Meet in their efforts to reduce excess athletes, they will be limiting relay pools from eight athletes, down to six.
The Indoor State Meet will continue to be held at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility for the coming years. OB hosts some of the largest Indoor Track Invitationals in the country, as well as the New Jersey State Meet and the USA Indoor Championships.
