As the track and field high school season comes to an end, we're turning our attention to the rapidly approaching XC Season. To elevate our coverage and bring even more spotlight to athletes across the state, MileSplit is looking to grow its contributor team for this fall - and beyond.

We want to ensure we have an expanded and ready team of content contributors in place to help us cover as many meets as possible throughout the year. We're looking for people who are passionate about high school running and can contribute in a variety of roles, including:

Roles We're Looking For:

  • Videographers: Capture full-event coverage of races and field events. We aim to film every heat, flight, and round when possible. (example)

  • Photographers: Take high-quality action shots, focusing on capturing a wide variety of athletes across events. (example)

  • Post-Race Interviews: Conduct athlete and coach interviews to hear directly from competitors about their experiences. (example)

  • Writers: Submit meet recaps, feature stories, and previews to highlight standout athletes and teams. (example)

  • Social Media Creators: Capture, edit, and share highlight reels, interviews, and hype content to promote athletes on Instagram, X, and beyond. (example)

We're especially looking for individuals who not only capture video or photo content, but can also handle editing for timely publishing on the site and social media.

Equipment & Experience

We recommend having your own camera (DSLR, mirrorless, or equivalent) for video or photo assignments. Smartphones are also acceptable for certain social content and videography roles. Experience in your desired role is a plus, but passion, reliability, and consistency are what matter most.

Time Commitment & Schedule

Assignments are offered on a per-meet or per-assignment basis depending on your location and availability. Most coverage is needed on weekends for Saturday invitationals. Writing and social media coverage will be needed throughout the week.

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older to be paid

  • Freelance, part-time contributor, and seasonal roles available

  • College Internships considered

  • State editor will reach out to applicants for follow-up and onboarding

Let's continue to grow the sport and give athletes the spotlight they deserve.
