Ryan Buskey Ties Outdoor State Record High Jump

The Indoor State Champion is back in rarified air, as Ryan Buskey (Colonie) claims the Junior State Record at 7-3 in the High Jump. Not only does he manage to grab the Junior State Record, but he also tied the overall State Record in the process.

Buskey broke the Indoor Junior State Record earlier this year, when he hit 7-2 twice over the 2025 Season. It was his first Indoor Season, after having played basketball through Sophomore year. The move proved fruitful, as it led to his first State Title, as well as his first Indoor National Title, winning New Balance in Boston.

Outdoors, Buskey has stayed relatively local. He had only cleared 7-0 twice this Season, both times within Section 2. His big time clearance came at his State Qualifier. He cleared 6-10 on his third attempt, but then cleared 7-0 on his first. Moving the bar up to tie the State Record, Buskey cleared 7-3 on his second attempt. He then took two tries at 7-4 before calling it a day.

The previous Junior Record was held by Tom Thompson (St. John the Baptist) set back in 1992. The Overall Record of 7-3 was set by Dan Olson (Albany Academy) in 2001, and is also the Section 2 Record. Olson also carries the All-Condition Record, with his 7-4 clearance Indoors.

Buskey has been busy on the track as well, carrying a 48.24 personal best in the open 400m.
