BOSTON, Mass. - After a strong showing at the BIG EAST Championships, several members of the Syracuse University track and field teams will compete in the 2010 ECAC/IC4A Indoor Championships on Saturday and Sunday, Mar. 6-7. Although both teams will be travelling to Boston, the Orange men will participate in the IC4A Championships hosted by Boston University, while the women will compete in the ECAC Championships at Roxbury Community College's Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center. The women are scheduled to begin competition at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, with the men to follow at 11:00 a.m.

Sprints Representatives
Three men and one woman have qualified to represent the Orange in the sprinting events at the championships.

For the men, graduate student Antoine Clark qualified in both the 55-meter dash, with a second place finish at the Binghamton Triangular, as well as in the 60-meter dash at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational. Junior Sham Lewis edged out Clark in the 55-meter dash at the Binghamton Triangular to earn first place and his bid to the indoor championships. Graduate student Bernard Bush also qualified for the IC4A Championships in the 55-meter dash, when he earned second place at the Syracuse Invite.

The lone sprinter for the women will be junior Lareea Chisholm, who earned an ECAC qualifying time (24.92) in a preliminary 200-meter dash at the BIG EAST Championships.

Hurdles Representatives
Junior Jarret Eaton will lead the hurdles squad, after setting a new school record (7.68) and taking the crown in the 60-meter hurdles at the New Balance Invite. Newcomer Amadou Gueye also recorded an IC4A qualifying time in the 60-meter hurdles when he placed second at the BIG EAST Championships. Matt Callanan, who won the 55-meter dash twice this season, also qualified for the IC4As.

On the women's side, senior Uhunoma Osazuwa qualified for both the 55-meter and 60-meter hurdles this season. She placed second overall in the 55-meter hurdles with an ECAC qualifying time of 8.27 at the Binghamton Triangular.

Distance Representatives
The Orange men had two runners qualify in the mile run this season. Graduate student Trevor Wiseman took 16th (4:11.54) at the Terrier Invite to earn his bid to the IC4A Championships, while teammate Erin Schirm finished 20th with his IC4A qualifying time of 4:13.22.

In the 3,000-meter event, graduate student Jeff Scull, senior Brad Miller, and junior Corey Robinson all attained IC4A qualifying standards at the BIG EAST Championships.

The men's squad had eight different runners qualify in the longest event of the championships, the 5,000-meter. Sophomore Tito Medrano, who recorded the team's season-best time (14:06.56) in the 5,000-meter at the BIG EAST Championships, will look to set the pace for his team at the IC4As. Seniors Jay Koloseus and Curtis Bixler finished sixth and seventh, respectively, at the Terrier Invite to qualify for the championships.

The team of Schirm, Wiseman, Kris Kolewe, and Greg Manning-Smith recorded an IC4A qualifying time of 7:44.08 in the 4 x 800-meter relay at the BIG EAST Championships. The SU distance medley relay team of Schirm, Miller, Kolewe, and Da'Mon Merkerson also qualified for the post-season meet.

The women's distance squad boasts qualifiers in sixth events. Senior Meagan Krifchin qualified for the ECAC Championships with a time of 2:55.02 in the 1,000-meter run at BIG EASTs, where she placed ninth.

Sophomore Lauren Penney joins Krifchin, after placing fourth and recording an ECAC qualifying time (4:55.28) in the mile run at the BIG EAST Championships.

Teammate Heather Stephens finished just behind Hursey at the conference meet to take third. Stefanie Slekis and Carly Hamond also earned their qualifying times in the 3,000-meter at the BIG EAST Championships.

Five runners reached ECAC standards in the 5,000-meter event. Hursey and Slekis will be joined by juniors Rebekah MacKay, Catherine DeSarle, and sophomore Natalie Busby. Busby finished second at the Terrier Invite earlier this season, while DeSarle took third at the same meet.
