DeRoo Named Patriot League Track Scholar-Athlete of the Year

HAMILTON, N.Y. (3/1/10) – Colgate University sophomore Elise DeRoo (Newtown, Conn.) was named the Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

A Molecular Biology major, DeRoo has posted a 3.89 GPA thus far in her career and has been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll three times.

She was named to the 2010 all-Patriot League First-Team after winning two titles at the league championship. She won the 5,000-meter run title with an ECAC qualifying time of 17:24.85 and claimed the 3,000-meter crown the next day with a personal-record time of 10:00.27

DeRoo also earned the Katie Almeter Most Valuable Player Award at the Class of '32 Invitational after winning the mile with a personal-record time of 5:00.85. Her time was the fastest in the Patriot League this season.

DeRoo also served as the anchor leg on Colgate's DMR team that posted a time of 11:53.72, the fastest in the Patriot League.

To be eligible for the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen are not eligible for this honor.

The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each individual sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out over the summer. One male and one female are selected for this honor.
