Johnston, French Named Bridge Financial Group Student Athletes of the Month

Staten Island, NY – Senior James Johnston (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) and sophomore Lauren French (Shillington, PA/North Penn) earned Bridge Financial Group Student Athletes of the Month for February. This is Johnston's second consecutive month earning the honor for the men and French's first time winning for the women.

James Johnston (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) - Men's Indoor Track & Field
One month after qualifying for the IC4A/ECAC Championships with a record-breaking time in the Men's Distance Medley Relay run, Johnston set a new standard in the Men's 1 Mile Run. Johnston destroyed Wagner's all-time indoor record at the NYU Fast Track Invitational on February 26th, finishing in 4:19.51 - nearly two seconds better than alumni Jorge Hernandez's 1983 record breaking time of 4:21.03. Johnston finished in 16th place out of 41 athletes. He currently holds three of Wagner's all-time indoor records.

Lauren French (Shilling, PA/North Penn) – Water Polo
In three weeks, French has established herself as one of the leading offensive threats for the Seahawks. She is currently tied for second on the team with 11 goals scored and is in the top three in assists, steals, takeaways, and kick out's drawn. French kick started her sophomore season with ten total points on four goals and six assists in Wagner's first four games - which including a game winning assist in Head Coach Pat Beemer's 100th career win. For her efforts, French was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Offensive Athlete of the Week on February 16th.
