Men Compete in Day Two of the NEC Championships

The Wagner College Men's Indoor Track and Field team finished in 11th place at the Northeast Conference (NEC) Indoor Championship presented by Road Runner Sports this weekend. Long Island University won the event with 147 points. Monmouth University finished second with 128 points, while Sacred Heart University placed third with 82 points.

Sophomore Thomas Iannacone (Havertown, PA/St. Joe's Prep) provided a bright spot for the Seahawks. He finished the 1 Mile Run in 4:22.76 to earn fourth place out of 10 athletes.His time is a new season-best for the Seahawks, defeating the old mark of 4:23.90 set by Iannacone on January 30th at the METS Indoor Championships.

Iannacone qualified for the event on Saturday by being one of the top-10 runners in the preliminary round. He finished at 4:24.59 in seventh place.

Sophomore Zachary Spector (Yaphank, NY/Longwood) added to his impressive weekend with a 15:35.57 finish in the 5000-meter run. He placed seventh out of 24 athletes.

The Distance Medley Relay team remains the lone representative of the Wagner men at the IC4A Championships on March 6th. Senior James Johnston (Middle Island, NY/Longwood), junior Derek Schultz (Ocean Port, NJ/Shore Regional), senior Kevin Kearney (Haddonfield, NJ/St. Joe's Prep), and Iannacone qualified for the event with a record breaking 10:13.64 finish on February 5th.

The Seahawks return to action on February 26th when they travel to the NYU Fast Track Invitational.
