NEW YORK, N.Y. - As the 2009-2010 indoor season draws to a close, several members of the Syracuse University track and field teams will travel to New York, N.Y. to compete in the BIG EAST Indoor Championships on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 20-21. The weekend's events will take place at the New Balance Track and Field Center at the Armory, beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Orange will be represented by 18 women and 26 men competing for a combined 23 crowns.

Sprints
On the women's side, juniors Flings Owusu-Agyapong and Lareea Chisholm will be running in the 60-meter dash for the Orange. Owusu-Agyapong qualified for the championship at the New Balance Invite, while Chisholm attained qualifying standards at that meet, as well as the Cornell Relays and the Upstate Challenge. Chisholm will also be running the 200-meter dash. Graduate students Beth Long, Nana Snag-Bender, and freshman Christine Ziviac will all be running for the Orange in the 800-meter event.

On the men's side, the Orange will have three sprinters in the 60-meter dash. Graduate students Antoine Clark, Michael LeBlanc, and junior Sham Lewis each attained a qualifying time at the New Balance Invite. The two Syracuse runners in the 400-meter competition also met the BIG EAST standards during the New Balance meet. Da'Mon Merkerson finished 10th with a time of 49.26, while teammate Tyler McCully took 27th.

Distance
Sang-Bender will also be competing in the 1,000-meter, along with senior Maegan Krifchin, who attained her qualifying time of 2:56.37 at the Upstate Challenge. Krifchin will also qualified for the mile event with teammate Stefanie Slekis. Seven Orange women earned BIG EAST qualifying times in the 3,000-meter run, including Heather Stephens, Rebekah MacKay and junior Katie Hursey, who had a standout cross country season. Sophomore Natalie Busby and junior Catherine DeSarle will be representing Syracuse in the weekend's longest event, the 5,000-meter.

The Orange men will have seven entrants in the mile run, including graduate students Trevor Wiseman, who qualified at the Terrier Invite, and Jeff Scull, who qualified at the Syracuse Invite. Corey Robinson and Brad Miller took third and fourth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter run at the Terrier Invite, propelling the duo into the post-season. Eight men qualified for the 5,000-meter run throughout the season, including cross country All-American Tito Medrano.

Hurdles
Jarret Eaton, who boasts the fastest 60-meter hurdles time in the nation, will lead the men's squad. He qualified for the BIG EAST Championships with his record-setting performance (7.68) at the New Balance Invite. Eaton will be joined in the 60-meter hurdles by teammates Amadou Gueye and Matthew Callanan.
