Women's Track Readies For PL Championship at Lafayette-Rider Invitational

NEW YORK, N.Y. (2/13/10)
- The Colgate University women's track and field team closed out its regular season with a great performance at the Lafayette/Rider Invitational at the NYC Armory.

Sophomore Chelsea Burns (Seattle, Wash.) led the Raiders in the distance events with a personal-best time of 5:00.70 in the mile. Burns finished third in the event and holds the third best time in the Patriot League this season.

Senior Ashley Niness (Berwyn, Pa.) finished second in the 800-meter run with a personal-record time of 2:16.74. Niness' time is also third in the Patriot League this season.

Junior Michele Miller (Silver Spring, Md.) headlined the sprinting events finishing sixth in the 200-meter dash, with the fastest time in the Patriot League. Miller crossed the line in 25.90, the second best time of her career.

The 4x400-meter relay team with sophomores Megan Snell (Beaverton, Ore.), and Alexandria Atkinson (Weston, Conn.) along with Niness and Miller posted the second best time in the Patriot League this season. The team finished fifth with a time of 3:59.25, becoming only the third team in the Patriot League to break the 4:00 barrier.
 
The Raiders will take part in the Patriot League Championships Feb. 19-21.
